Wheelyboat Mark III

The latest bow-loading Wheelyboat model was designed and developed in 2006 and is the Trust's most versatile Wheelyboat to date. It is larger and has more passenger capacity than its two predecessors and is perfectly suited for pleasure boating, nature watching, etc as well as angling. It can also be used as a trip boat or a small ferry. The majority of Mk IIIs supplied are performing these wider functions and consequently the Trust is benefiting a broader spectrum of disabled people across a greater range of waters.

Construction

All Wheelyboats are built from marine grade aluminium. The Mk III is hand built to order and various modifications to suit particular requirements can be incorporated during construction. For example, a wider bow door is possible (standard 90cm); the handrails can be any height required or made adjustable; additional lockers can be fitted; and, special seating arrangements installed.

Seating

The deck is made from non-slip aluminium treadplate and in all normal conditions wheelchair brakes are sufficient to hold wheelchairs in position.
A range of seating is available:
Aluminium or wooden bench seats in various lengths - installed permanently or free standing.
Waterproof moulded seats on sturdy and stable bases - free standing but legs can slot into tubes on the boat's side for extra stability.
Other seating systems can be incorporated if required.

Propulsion

The Trust can supply electric or petrol outboards to suit. It particularly recommends a purpose-built 15hp Yamaha outboard with electric start and power tilt (tiller handled or remote). Disabled people helming the boat will find this engine easy to use.

The minimum output needed for an electric outboard is 74lbs thrust (small sheltered waters). For larger electric outboards, boats can be supplied with batteries and chargers permanently installed.

Optional extras

Accessible console - drive from wheelchair

Chandlery - anchors, chain, rope, bailer, klaxon, lifejackets, paddles, boathook, fire extinguisher, etc

Gunwale pole - especially on wilder waters where a pole across the boat will provide extra security for disabled anglers. Easy to fit and remove, can be used as a handrail or strapping point for wheelchairs. Will also fit the Mk I and Mk II

Cover - to keep the rain out when not in use

Trailer - a purpose-built braked trailer with break-back facility is available for easy loading and unloading of Mk IIIs with no permanent mooring
