The Trust's role is to help and encourage venues open to the public to acquire Wheelyboats for their disabled visitors and to help groups and organisations acquire Wheelyboats for their own use. It therefore readily fundraises to subsidise the cost of Wheelyboats, if required, to ensure maximum availability of the facility. Wheelyboats are supplied in two main ways:
Where Wheelyboats are purchased by the venue or organisation from the Trust either at the subsidised or full price depending on the circumstances. Ownership of the boat passes to the venue or organisation.
Wheelyboats can be purchased privately by individuals for their own use. The Trust will supply Wheelyboats to continental Europe and the Republic of Ireland although it is only able to subsidise boats supplied in the UK.
Where the Wheelyboat is loaned to the venue or organisation for as long as it is required. Ownership of the boat remains with the Trust but the venue or organisation is responsible for the boat's upkeep and insurance. Placements generally occur when a substantial proportion of the cost of the boat has been funded by a third party sponsor. As no sale takes place, VAT does not apply to the transaction which can save a substantial sum for non-VAT registered venues or when zero-rating of the Wheelyboat is not permitted.
In certain circumstances, the Trust would be willing to hire a Wheelyboat to a venue or organisation.
